Princess Mononoke ( もの のけ 姫) is a Japanese animated film by Hayao Miyazaki. This film is set in medieval Japan and focuses on a struggle between human guardians of the forest and natural resources needed. According to director said, "Mononoke" is not a name, but a description that can be translated as "avenging spirit."
This film contains many similarities to The Odyssey, because in it, Ashitaka, a long journey in order to find answers about a curse gained after killing to Tatarigami, a demon that destroys all life by merely touching it, which happens to be the Boar God Nago.
In this journey, Ashitaka go through different phases, like Ulysses in the Odyssey, and will face several types of hazards while the curse that has grown inside. The latter is comparable to the situation of Odysseus, as this too does something inside him along his journey, but in this case it would be the nostalgia felt by the protagonist for his family and home.
