SYNOPSIS

The film is set in Massapequa, Long Island in 1956, in It shows us the story of a young man who volunteered to go to war, convinced that defending your country is the best way to show your love. But their convictions will change radically when you return back home as a veteran in a wheelchair, unable to move.

In the movie "Born on the 4th of July" can find parallels with respect to the work of the Odyssey. The first parallel might be that the two characters involved in the war, Ronny, star of the film, participate in the war in Vietnam and Odysseus in the Trojan War. Ronny like Odysseus, is brave and have great psychological force, there are weak and struggling to find what they want, in this case, our protagonist in the film struggle to walk again, try again and again while Odysseus struggles to overcome all obstacles that are presented for punishment of the gods, because ect of his sailors, and who want to get to reach their land, their home.

Another parallel might be that these two characters embark on a journey back home not knowing what awaits them when they get there, as both in one form or another have changed and has been a long time since they left. Ronny when he returns home to face harsh criticism and a society in which he is not satisfied. After all he has lived in the war, he realizes that this is not the solution to American prosperity, unless there are other methods. Years later, struggles to convince his country can achieve the prosperity of a country free of violence and injustice. Instead Odysseus when he returns home is facing some claimants who have settled in their home because they want to pretend to his wife. Odysseus wants revenge on them and fight for them to take their due and also to recognize his wife.
